How Jade Nelson formed a small non profit making BIG impact singlehandedly.

Chapter #1 - Starting Small
In 2022, I started a small community group on Facebook with a simple mission: to support women in finding meaningful friendships. I would host a monthly coffee meetup, and whether one person turned up or ten, it was a great way to meet new people. Then, slowly, I started getting more and more messages—women reaching out, each with their own story, yet all carrying the same deep need for connection.
There were women escaping domestic violence, desperately needing someone to listen without judgment. Elderly women, isolated and longing for conversation, who lit up at the chance to share their stories. Women who had just moved to the area, feeling lost and eager to find a sense of belonging. A busy entrepreneur, so burnt out that the thought of making new friends felt overwhelming. A single mom, juggling work and childcare, who barely had time for a conversation beyond her daily responsibilities....
Women from all walks of life, each facing different challenges, yet united by one common struggle—feeling alone. It became clear to me that this was more than just a social group, this is something bigger.
Chapter #2 - Turning Pain into Purpose
For years, I faced struggles that felt impossible to overcome. Mental health battles, leaving home at 16 and battling my own demons after a domestic violence relationship. I thought I was alone for a long time—until I made the choice to fight for myself and my future. Healing wasn’t instant. It took time, effort, and an unshakable belief that I deserved better. This healing journey connected me again with my family, lead me to build my own successful business, meeting the love of my life and a home to be proud of. So you could say that The Women’s Society began from a deeply personal place, understanding that women heal through connection.
I couldn't help but wonder: How many other women feel the same way? Craving a sense of
connection and understanding? So, I started to do my research and quickly discovered how
widespread this issue really is. What started as a safe space for women to share their experiences became a growing community of support. But as we grew, I knew we needed more structure, more resources, and more opportunities to truly make an impact. That’s when I took the leap and transitioned The Women’s Society from a grassroots group into an official non-profit.
Making that shift wasn’t easy. There were legal hurdles, financial challenges, and moments of doubt. But every obstacle was worth it!
Chapter #3 - Staggering Statistics
Around 1 in 6 Australian women experience depression, and in 2024, only 48% of
women sought support when struggling with mental health. According to the
Liptember Foundation’s 2024 Mental Health Research, 71% of women strongly
agree that there’s still a surface-level acceptance of mental health issues, with a lot
of stigma around speaking up and asking for help.
These numbers were staggering, and they validated what I was feeling: countless women were also facing isolation, struggling alone, and feeling misunderstood.
Chapter #4 - A Future Built on Connection
Today, The Women’s Society is more than just an organization—it’s a movement. We’re here to remind women that no matter what they’ve been through, they are not alone. There is strength in vulnerability, power in community, and healing in connection.
But beyond the mission and the movement, we’re also about making memories. From paint parties and skill workshops to brunches, networking nights, and so much more, our monthly events are all about bringing women together in a fun, relaxed, and supportive atmosphere. No cliques, no awkwardness—just real connections and good vibes!
Every event welcomes new faces, and many of our members take a leap of faith, showing up solo—only to leave with new friendships. So whether you're looking for deep conversations, personal growth, or just a great time, you’ll find it here. Now The Womens Society is an official organisation, we are planning some exciting projects for the future. As we are a non profit, we solely rely on grants and partnerships to make our dreams a reality.
